At the same time, the project speculates about new forms of coexistence in which life and synthetic matter evolve together in unexpected ways."* [—Musée](https://museemagazine.com/culture/2025/5/19/castaway-the-afterlife-of-plastic-harvards-peabody-museum-of-archaeology-amp-ethnology) ### Special Exhibition May 17, 2025–April 5, 2026 ***“We aim to create a visual poetry to showcase the serious implications of what happens with the castaways of contemporary culture.”*** **—TRES** TRES transports us with photographs of glowing orbs that resemble celestial spheres more than the bottle caps they once were. Making their way as garbage to Australia from as far away as China, these objects have been scarred by Bryozoa, tiny micro-organisms that can be seen in the display case in this exhibition. Exploring global patterns of discard, they translate their findings into books and installations that challenge conventional notions of scale and space. ilana boltvinik + rodrigo viñas formed TRES in 2009 in Mexico City. They have received grants from the Jumex Foundation, the Pollock-Krasner Foundation, and Yaddo and their work has been exhibited in North and South America, Europe and Asia. TRES represented Mexico in the 13th Biennale of La Havana in Cuba. Explorando los patrones globales del desecho, traducen sus hallazgos a libros e instalaciones que desafían las nociones convencionales de escala y espacio. ilana boltvinik + rodrigo viñas formaron TRES en el 2009 en la Ciudad de México. Han recibido becas de la Fundación Jumex, la Fundación Pollock-Krasner y Yaddo, y su obra se ha exhibido en Norte y Sudamérica, Europa y Asia. TRES representó a México en la XIII Bienal de La Habana en Cuba. En el 2015, se les otorgó la Comisión WMA de la Fundación WYNG con sede en Hong Kong para producir Basura Ubicua, la primera de una serie artística sobre la movilidad global de los desechos marinos.
