**Speaker:**

Miriam Horn, Author

Field biologist and conservationist George B. Schaller is renowned for revolutionizing the study of wildlife by observing animals in their natural habitats. He has also been a powerful advocate for protecting wilderness and animal species across the globe. Born in 1933 in Berlin to an American mother and a German father in Berlin, Schaller spent his war‑torn childhood searching for peace among wild creatures. His efforts took him around the world to study Congo mountain gorillas, Himalayan snow leopards, Brazilian jaguars, Tibetan brown bears, and many others. Before Jane Goodall or Dian Fossey, Schaller revealed the rich emotional and social lives of these primates and predators.

Drawing from her new book [*Homesick for a World Unknown: The Life of George B. Schaller*](https://www.penguinrandomhouse.com/books/635282/homesick-for-a-world-unknown-by-miriam-horn/) (Penguin Press, 2026), Miriam Horn will trace his remarkable career. She will highlight his views on conservation and the path to survival he mapped for us all—challenging us to rethink our place in the natural world.

Copies of *Homesick for a World Unknown* will be available for purchase after the program.

Free event parking is available with registration. Register by November 18 to receive parking registration instructions.
