In-Person Youth Program, ages 13-18
Saturday, November 14, 1:00–3:30 pm
Journey 30,000 years into the past to discover how ancient humans used art to express themselves, connect with their environment, and develop techniques and materials to decorate cave walls in Europe.
Guided by Marlena Billings, a PhD student in the Department of Anthropology, teens will explore examples of cave art and learn how archaeologists use experimental archaeology and microscopes to study how people manufactured art. Through hands-on activities, participants will experiment with different tools, surfaces, and light to see how ancient artists brought animals and scenes to life in dark cave spaces.
Teen Saturdays Workshops are offered bilingually in Spanish and English. They are designed to build community and improve the museum experience for multicultural teens. Snacks provided!
The $10 fee includes free admission to all HMSC museums immediately following the workshop.
Teens will receive a free admission pass (worth $15) for a return visit if they attend one of the three sessions.
