Taken, Traded, Remembered: Journeys of Puerto Rican Collections
Indigenous Taíno people called the island of Borikén home when the Spanish arrived on its shores in 1493. Now known as Puerto Rico, the island's history includes generations of Taíno, African, and European descendants, along with the diverse communities that followed.
As part of the museum's Institutional Histories Initiative, the Taken, Traded, Remembered: Journeys of Puerto Rican Collections online exhibit is live and a teaching display is on view through December 2026. Both draw on provenance research conducted by Luis Daniel Beauchamp, a Puerto Rican student in the North American diaspora, as part of a Museum Practicum course.
